Professional mattress steam cleaning is hot water extraction: a heated cleaning solution goes into the top layers and is pulled straight back out by strong suction, taking sweat salts, body oil, dust and loosened stains with it. The mattress is left damp, not wet, and dries through the day.

Steam is the deeper clean, and it suits innerspring mattresses with a firm, tightly woven cover, particularly ones with heavy sweat marks.
