What we can remove
| Stain | What works | Outlook |
|---|---|---|
| Pet urine | Enzyme treatment plus hot water extraction; underlay treatment if soaked through | Odour removed in almost all cases; old yellowing may remain faintly |
| Red wine, cordial, juice | Reducing agent, then extraction | Usually removed completely if not heat-set |
| Coffee and tea | Tannin remover, then extraction | Usually removed; old stains lighten |
| Blood and vomit | Enzyme and oxidiser, sanitised | Removed while fresh; older stains lighten |
| Grease, oil, makeup | Solvent spotter, then extraction | Usually removed |
| Ink, dye, nail polish | Specialist solvent | Variable; we test a hidden patch first |
| Bleach or sun fading | Not a stain: colour is gone | Cannot be cleaned; can be dyed or patched |
The single most useful thing you can do before we arrive is blot, never rub, and avoid supermarket stain removers. Many of them set the stain or bleach the fibre, and a stain that has been heat-treated by a home steam machine is the hardest kind to shift.
Pet urine and odour treatment
Urine soaks through the pile into the underlay and sometimes the floor beneath. Cleaning the surface alone leaves the smell to return on humid days. We find affected areas with a UV light, treat them with an enzyme solution that breaks down uric acid, then extract. Where the underlay is saturated we treat it directly. Flea treatment is available as an add-on for end-of-lease cleans and homes with pets.
Couch, rug and mattress stains
The same treatments apply to fabric couches, rugs and mattresses. Fabric type matters more here: we test a hidden patch on velvet, linen and viscose before treating. See couch cleaning, rug cleaning and mattress cleaning.
What it costs
Everyday stains and deodorising are included in the price of a room or seat clean. Specialist treatments such as pet urine underlay treatment, flea treatment and dye or ink removal are quoted first, so there are no surprises on the day.

FAQs
Can you remove old pet urine stains from carpet?
The odour, almost always. The yellow staining can usually be reduced a great deal but on light carpet an old, repeated stain may leave a faint mark.
Does carpet cleaning remove the smell of dog or cat?
Yes, when the source is treated. We locate the spots with UV light and use an enzyme treatment rather than masking the smell with fragrance.
Is stain removal included in carpet cleaning?
Ordinary spills and deodorising are included in every clean. Pet urine underlay treatment, flea treatment and dye removal are quoted separately.
